Hotels
June is high season
in Varenna and hotels are expected to get fully booked by the end of
January. For this reason, it is crucial that participants book their
accomodation as soon as possible.
We suggest BnB and apartments since they usually provide best value for money. You can find a list https://varennaturismo.com/en/hotel-bb-and-rooms/ or through the usual websites (airbnb, etc.).
There are also a few hotels. Luxury
hotels are usually booked years in advance. There are also a few
mid-range and budget hotels. Here is a list of possible hotels
within walking distance from the conference venue:
Albergo Milano (mid-range, best option)
Hotel Montecodeno (budget)
Hotel Beretta (budget)
Albergo Ristorante del Sole (budget)
Hotel Olivedo (no availability for the full workshop week)
If you have or planning to have your own wheels, there are of course plenty of other options in the area around Varenna.
In particular, we suggest the following:
Hotel il Portichetto in the village of Vezio. This village is right on top of the hill above
Varenna with fantastic views of the lake. There is a hiking path which
goes from Varenna to Vezio, so in principle one can hike back and forth
to Villa Monstero in about 15-20 minutes, but the path is steep and it
can get very hot in June, so we still suggest to consider this option
only if you have a car.
Agriturismo Castello di Vezio: Agriturismo Castello di Vezio. Again in Vezio, see above.
Fiumelatte: this is the village right south of Varenna with more
B&Bs and Apartments, some of them are walking distance from Villa
Monastero but the others might require a few minutes drive by car.
Bellano: 10-min drive on the northern side of Varenna, it has a similar
